A short video of a group of pretty awesome SOS Brigade cosplayers doing the Hare Hare Yukai dance at Comic Con 2009. Mikuru was a little off sync, but it’s okay since her character is naturally clumsy. Great cosplay and very nice dance, they’ve obviously been practicing. I came across this video while looking for Comic Con 2009 videos on Youtube. Here the Master, as he calls himself, goes around the 09 ComicCon interviewing cosplayers. The video features a bunch of different cosplayers, but watch for the Yuki Nagato one. I give the girl credit for being faithful to the original character’s personality, but it just comes off as strange in this case, especially if you’re not a Haruhi fan. Kinda creepy IMO, but I still LOL’d.

On the theme of crossovers from the last post, I thought I’d post some of my favorite Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star crossover videos. For many Haruhi fans, Lucky Star was like Haruhi season 1.5 because it filled that empty place after the first season was over; plus it had Haruhi’s seiyuu Hirano Aya as the voice of Konata and made several references to Haruhi in the show itself. At an Otakon 2009 panel, former KyoAni director, Yutaka Yamamoto, who worked on the first season of Haruhi Suzumiya speaks out about the current direction that season 2 has been going. Yutaka Yamamoto was the director of the complete first season of The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi anime and worked on the first episodes of Lucky Star before he was suddenly removed. I don’t think any other dance has been emulated at cons and cosplayer conventions as much as Haruhi Suzumiya’s Hare Hare Yukai dance. The original version which was featured during the ending credits of the first season anime was so viral that the producers included a full version dance as a bonus on the last DVD of the series.
