The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Anime Episode List

An explanation on Episode Ordering:

One thing that’s very unique about the Suzumiya Haruhi anime is that the episodes are not shown in chronological ordering. This means events do not follow continuously from one episode to the next. The episodes skip around a lot over the timeline of the series, meaning the events of one episode may not have occurred yet (chronologically) by the next episode.

For example, episode 1: ‘The Adventures of Asahina Mikuru Episode 00’ is an amateur movie Haruhi and the SOS Brigade shot for the school festival. However, the actual shooting of that movie does not occur until later (it’s not even shown in season one). At the beginning of episode 2: ‘The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya I’, the SOS Brigade hasn’t even been formed yet. The ‘formal’ introductions of most of the main characters are introduced in episode 2, so chronologically it actually should be episode 1.

Confused? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. It’s best to just think of the episodes as one-shot stories which are mostly independent of the episodes before and after it. Why did the director and producers decide to arrange the episodes this way? Who knows? My guess is that it is meant to reflect Haruhi’s ability to manipulate space and time. Something like chronology is irrelevant to someone who can control time.

On the topic of airing order vs chronological order, I feel that people who are watching the first season for the first time should watch it as it was aired, as it’s not that confusing and the ending makes it totally worth it. If it doesn’t make sense after that then I guess there’s no harm in watching it chronologically.

I am sorry, it’s just my opinion, but it really looks like a piece of crap. And I’m not a sick-fan of Naruto, by the way.
