No Third Season of Haruhi Suzumiya?
I was reluctant to post this as news as 1. the ANN title is misleading and 2. I haven’t found multiple translation sources verifying the validity of the statement, but a lot people reported this in so I thought I’d throw it out there.
The story is based off of one post found on ANN:
– Aya Hirano tweets that she’s working on a “secret project”
– a reporter with J-cast speculates she is alluding to the third season of Haruhi Suzumiya
(the Aya Hirano sex scandal earlier this year has put her future career as an anime seiyuu in jeopardy)
– reporter contacts a Kadokawa representative to confirm if a third season is in the works
– Kadokawa representative says a third season is not in the works
The original here article is here. If anyone with a good grasp of Japanese could verify exactly what the question was and that of the Kadokawa representative’s statement, it would help clear up this misleading news source.

Glad to see that there is some doubt here. I’ll quote what I said on AnimeSuki’s message boards.
It basically details that the events in June prompted many fans to “wish” for a third season (which was not fulfilled) and that the second one was aired three years after the first one. It then details about Hirano’s tweets and the uproar they caused. But the important parts are at the end.

No direct quote, but it is a summary of someone’s statements. Make of that what you will.

I can’t believe it!
There was always a lot of doubt in me over whether or not they would ever make a third season of Haruhi. But hearing those words come straight out of KyoAni’s mouth really, REALLY stung.
I hope that they, for some reason, change their minds. However, their decision isn’t really something I can argue with, is it? I’m not gonna’ be the one to bite the hand who feeds me and complain, but this really hurt. :C

It’s easier to change plans about broadcast than about making 3rd season.
I cannot speak japanese but I’ve come across at least three different translations of this sentence and that’s how I decided to interpret it.

I agree with cyshtoph. Just because they don’t plan on broadcasting it does not mean that they are not making it. It could be that the third season is too early in production to be able to schedule a broadcast period, or they may have decided not to even bother with broadcasting it in the first place, and are just going to release the episodes online.

I read the light novels and from what I remember, it has quite a lot of promise in almost all sectors. They don’t need to try to be artsy with it like they did with the second season. The First one was brillant and that was enough for them, for the second season they tried something from which they tought it would gain even more edgy promise but failed miserably in the end. They could have made the second season stand on it’s own if they had made it like the first one, the story in my opinion can stand on its own without pretentious meddling. Let me say make myself clear on this however, I am all in favor of being original and a little creative, but they tried it and it didn’t fly, period. I find it very cowardly to abandon such a story for commercial purposes after they squandered their reassources so foolishly.
Maybe it is not yet planned, due to there are many projects that are still on pending?
I actually had doubts myself about a third season. The reason being because the second season was not really season 2. It was just a rebroadcast of season 1 with a few more episodes thrown in. Because of this it might be kind of awkward to make season 3.
But I think Haruhi is their best-selling work, so it might be silly not for them to make season 3. After all, they owe us for Endless Eight and the anime seems incomplete just ending there.
And it’s KyoAni, there’s a chance they’re trolling us again.

I had a bad feeling something like this was coming. Still, it’s not shocking that Kadokawa isn’t thinking about more Haruhi (since they’re working on much more projects right now). In the end, it’s their loss.
First of all:Endless Eight concept wise is brilliant! Enjoyable but less functional ‘when viewed just’ anime-wise
I’d say S3 is ‘currently’ not in the making/planning, that doesn’t say anything about the future!
besides that sofar only 50ish% of the story has been covered, and several of these plots cover past events, and would thus ‘mix’ perfectly with the now broadcasted seasons.

This happens with many high-profile companies, you cannot be ready to accept media coverage until you have locked down and contracted your media rights.
Aya, being under strict NDA, cannot name the project she is working on obviously, and doesn’t, only saying she is working on something not-yet-announced.
So taking the amount of positive speculation on the matter, you actually can’t do anything BUT deny the existence of the project in Kadokawa’s case given that, the announcement exclusively belongs to somebody else. Most probably signed to one of those anime magazines.
After using multiple translation engines and reading some translations of the statements, it seems to me that the part with kadokawa staing what they are doing about a 3rd haruhi season is that “was not scheduled for 3 period of the series melencholy” Remember what they said before the disappearance? That it wont always be the “melancholy”. I think we are being seriously trolled, or they are making it but havnt decided when it will be broadcasted.

Well, I really hope there will be a third season for Haruhi. Lets not lose our hope.

Even if they don’t make a season 3 you can always read the light novels, but you know what? TV productions company’s are so secretive (in general) that it would not surprise me if they have plans for a third season, from the translations I’ve seen the wording seems odd, which makes me think that KyoAni is purposefully steering us in the wrong detection.
But considering the gap between season 1 and season 2, it may be a fairly long time until we see a season three.
Oh! Now that I think about it they could be making another movie! The episodes weren’t well done in chronological order so they could skip over
the events between S2 and the Disappearance and the ones after the Disappearance and make a movie out of the intrigues!
Or if they added to it, maybe a movie of Snowy Mountain Syndrome! Maybe adding in the Prologue of The Intrigues of Haruhi Suzumiya, Love at first sight, and The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina (all from the light novels)

I’m honestly not surprised.
Regardless of how people see Endless Eight it is a reason not to bother spending the same usual price for a full series for a series that essentially has 1 episode replayed 8 times on the disc.
Japanese Seiyuu and Actor Scandals are quite common in Japan. The victim always uses whatever they’ve done wrong in the past as a way to make a comeback. There’s not that big of a chance Hirano Aya is gonna get replaced unless she dissed the head of her Agency or Kadokawa.
And from the way it looks, do you really think they’re gonna stop animating Haruhi? The animators are making a bucketload from this series. All I’m saying is that everyone needs to be patient.

The way I see it, even if they aren’t making a new season right now, they haven’t really made any indication that they aren’t EVER going to make one… At the most we may just have to wait longer, though how much longer I have no idea…

hey guys i found something in the code
looking at haruhi.tv its a solid gray page.. i thought id check the coding for the page, to see if there was anything hidden..
well i did find something. where a picture would normally be after an image code, instead of a picture, theres a counter, as seen below
“/FS-APL/FS-Counter/counter.cgi?Code=top_counter”
what its counting down to, can be assumed its an image, since its using an image display code to show the counter. but when its counting down to is still a mystery..
i also found the text “オーケーさ、もちろん” written in the code. does anyone know what it means?
bla7kcat, you’re looking at an older version of the code where you pressed the enter key. That’s what Kyon says in the movie when he presses it.
As for the counter, that’s part of the normal code for the website and is likely essential somehow. I’ve examined it several times and it’s always been present. It’s likely for the usual counter on the normal page which says “you are the (number) visitor to this site.”
looking at the code a bit more, it seems the header is “SOS D s ” or “SOS D*******s***” D followed by 7 spaces, and s followed by 3.
anyone want to play fill in the blank? its like a bad game of hangman. however i may have found the answer. if you type in “SOS Dans website” into google.com, the very first offering is “haruhi.tv” with the header “ページ読み込みエラー” (“page load error”) which is a different than if you simply type haruhi.tv into google.com, in this case it will display “HARUHI” as the header.
just reporting some more findings.
edit to what i said up there, i tried typing in SOS Dans website in a different version of google and my results were different..
type “SOS Dan web site” in quotes and it comes up in both the US and JP verson of google

bla7kcat, there is nothing special about what you’ve said. Google’s cache of the official site is old, and thus they still have an older version up. The one they have is from the 18th, when the site was down as there was no SOS Brigade during these three days. That’s why it says “Page not found.”
Also, the tagline for the site (if you would have looked prior to the 18th) was “SOS Dan Website.” All the current header did was delete “an Web” and “ite” from the top line. It’s still trying to reflect that the site has “disappeared” due to the events in the story.
I have examined the site many many many many times as well as the source code many many times (they still have an event listed from 2009 in there!) and there is nothing special about what is going on other than it’s playing along with the “Disappearance” story.
*Sob* Its cool that they do this interesting stuff, but then you never really know what is happening ever so you are always in a state of anxiety

WAAH!! After hearing this, I’m so downhearted. I was looking forwards to seeing many more stories in the novels but not in the anime. I guess I’ll have to hope. But people have pointed out “broadcasting” and not “making” so I’m SOOOO hopeful. I will wait until I’ve left school if I have to, just to see if there is a third season. The third season will be announced in some edition of the newtype during 2012. it’s always the same, they want to make a big marketing about a surprise to haruhi fans, like they did many times before.
probably the 3rd will be aired at 2013. after a high-suspence announcement series.
Hope they anime most of the histories of book 5 and 6.
Of course the representative is going to say that there are no plans. What do you expect them to say? Kadokawa and KyoAni like playing their cards close to their chests when it comes to Haruhi, they’re not just going to let some representative leak it to the press when prompted.

Nico is somewhat right…but i guess KyoAni already knows that “Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” has a lot of fans so all we would be doing by sending letters would be spamming…give everyone some time a new season of Haruhi will definitely pop up out of nowhere as usual….if it won’t…it’s their loss because this anime is bringing them a lot of money….our only loss is the loss of time since this anime is too good to be left unfinished so eventually someone else will take over to make a third season.

I really want more Haruhi as well but just because there aren’t plans for a 3rd season right NOW doesn’t mean it will never happen. We may also see more Haruhi through other things such as movies, manga and light novels. Don’t give up hope, people!
Sucks. You can reason that there’s a lot of cash to be made out of Haruhi, but the company doesn’t have to work on stuff they don’t want to work on regardless of money. I’d rather have them produce some other good stuff (I thought Nichijou was pretty good) than to half-heartedly do Haruhi just for sales.

Take a look at Bandai-Ent that just stopped their NA distribution. They announced it (2) days ago but the Japanese suits made the decision back in October and did not tell anyone.
Japanese companies do follow this secrecy so I for one will look into the translation as not “broadcasting” right now.
This is called ‘lies’ – I really wish people would stop taking what anime studios say over the phone at face value.
If Hirano had been told to keep it a secret, what makes you think they’d tell you over the phone?
I’m more inclined to think they’d go after a 2nd movie rather than a 3rd series after the success of the Vanishment though.

This has been very disheartening. Even if they can’t officially announce something… wouldn’t they given an inkling of hope at least? It would be in their best interest to keep fans hopeful…
Why WOULND’T they want to continue with Haruhi? It has much more to work with and is far more interesting than other series they are working on. Maybe that’s just my bias though.
I haven’t read the light novels, although from what my friend says, and the listing of chapters on wikipedia, they have covered like 10 % of the story plus it’s still coming more light novels. Seriously, they can continue the anime for ever, that’s not what to worry about
Hello, I Am Tangiwan’s Assistant. He says that because of Hirano’s scandal, they may just get another person. The problem is, that person would need to do the whole theme songs, episodes, movies over again. Hirano is still under a severe punishment, releasing these would be a problem. Japan court has said, nothing related to her, should be spread out or posted. Until then, there’s not much Tangiwan can do. I am very sorry to all fans of Haruhi but, there’s nothing Tangiwan can do or I can do. This is only Hirano. Chihara, everyone one else of the Japanese characters are ready to record. Until this matter is resolved, we have nothing to do.
Well I’ve just got into this Anime and its quite interesting so far..
The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya is a brilliant movie! As well as the endless 8 episodes. All we can do (The Fans) is just hope that they will continue on making the “Haruhi” Series. I havent read any of the novels yet but i’ve got good feed back on it.
I believe that theres a strong chance that they will continue on making this series. I’ll give it a couple of months on this year until we get an ACTUAL ANSWER if they will continue or not. But while we wait for the answer I will continue on re-watching all the episodes and the movie.

Reflecting back on other animes I like (I’m allowed to like other animes, ‘kay?) I remembered something:
One of my most favorite anime things was made in 2004.
It got a game in 2005.
The game was translated in 2006.
It got a second game just after the first was translated into English.
The second game was translated in 2007.
It got an anime in 2008.
And a manga I like:
It was made in 2004. (What is it with me and things made in 2004?)
It got an anime in 2005.
Season II of the manga was made in 2008.
The manga was translated in 2009.
Season II was starting to be translated in 2011.
Season II is still being translated (Volume 7 at the moment).
The anime is still being dubbed, and it was first announced it would be dubbed in 2010.
See? Japanese like to take their time over things to make sure the quality reaches the best it can.

This is nuts I seriously hope this isn’t a sign that the 3rd Season Ive been dying to see wont be made. If they think that they are clever doing this to us to build up suspense they better stop it or we might all just have to sue for psychological taurcher which breaches our human rights.
Oh and for those of you in America reading this you are provably the only ones aware of this happening so take some responsibility for the giant bottle neck that people like Fox create just to butcher a lot of anime and keep others from seeing them because we fans in Europe dont have direct lines to the anime producers like you do so please spread the word and lets keep our mutual enjoyment of anime from being chocked off.

The more money they get out this anime, the more likely they are to do a new season. So, instead of illegally watching it online like I’m pretty sure you almost all did, head over to amazon.com and buy the dvds…Seriously folks, I can name so many animes that have been canceled even though they had a huge fanbase because people didn’t buy any DVDs or merchandise. What if by “no third season” being planned was that it is too far ahead for them to consider. Technicaly the “second season” was just a reairing with new episodes, so you could say there isn’t even a second season yet. Looking at it that way its possible they are actualy working on the second season now, and it could even be a full length season instead of just a half season. Looking at it that way, it may be a while before we see that new season arrive, and that would of course mean a season after that would be too far ahead to plan, so of course they would say they weren’t planning a third season.
Stop saying that Second Season wasn’t actually a season. It was, as long as the first one. Just because Endless Eight repeat itself seven times doesnt mean it wasn’t the second season.
By the way, Lord Kane, I dont know where you from but I’m from Latin America. We dont have too much money to spend it in DVDs, even when I would pay for them if I could. But even with free shipping, I would have to pay 30 dollars for delivery from America to my country. I dont have that money. That’s why I have to watch it via Internet.

Mostly everyone here watched it illegally since apparently you were present when every single person in this site watched the series.
Apparently you did not make it to my house when I watched the series that I bought, “ON DVD”.
Also, I suppose the invite that I sent you through the mail never got to you when I received my copy of the DVD and BD combo.
My point is that: sure, you might be right. Buying merchandise based on the series might motivate the animation studios to make a third season but, that does not give you the right to say that it’s the fault of those who watched the series online. I have watched other series online and then bought them.
Watching anime online is like a free trial: You watch it and if you liked it you buy it, if you didn’t well, at least you were left feeling satisfied knowing that you didn’t carelessly spend quite a bit money on a series that you didn’t really enjoy. Not everyone is capable of buying the DVDs, whether from amazon or any other site due to the high shipping costs for those outside of the country where the store is located.
Also, there is the fact that it is not just the fans from outside Japan who need to contribute by buying the DVDs and other merch. How can you be sure that all fans in Japan buy DVDs and don’t watch the series illegally online?

Anomite, the second season WAS a reairing with new episodes. Regardless of if you liked the endless eight or not is not the issue at hand (I even liked it a bit). It is the fact that one full season of anime is considered to be 24-26 episodes long. 12-14 are considered only half seasons. That isnt to say a season cant just be 12-14 episodes. However, the material in question is considered extra episodes added to the first season to expand it and not necisarily a new season. That is the only point I am trying to make.
With that in mind it is fare to say the first season was both pieces making it a full season in length. Im not trying to argue there will be a new season of Haruhi, who knows. But it is possible that there working on season two instead of season three as I stated earlier.

This is what you get for diciking around with your fans.
Yes you can make a bunch of sheep watch and buy 8 episodes of the exact same thing, but you will piss your fanbase off so much that in the long run you will not be rewarded for being a jackass. Not to mention it will shoot the anime in the foot in the west, because we simply do not put up with this kind of bullshit.
Remember that episode of Supernatural with the Time Loop that was written at least eight times better than Endless Eight? Remeber how it conveyed the frustration and tedium of being caught in a time loop , by elemnts such as Sam waking up to the same piece of music over and over again, then angirly telling Dean EXACTLY what was going to happen? And it was funny, AND had a storng story, rather than dicking around with its fans?
Well I guess in the long run they ended up trolling themselves
The endless eight were indeed a little tiresome to watch, but I still liked it. If you didn’t like it then you got the wrong idea about it. It wasn’t supposed to be a progression like that because the one character being aware of the timeloop never did anything to affect it so it can’t be compared to normal time loop scenerios. In fact, the whole concept of it being tiring for those who watch it was the main point it was trying to get across. You got fed up with 8 repeats but Yuki had to put up with over 15000. It succeeded creating a timeloop scenerio where instead of enjoying the plight of the main character, you feel the pain of the loop with them. And each episode was different every time in small changee, but changes none the less. If you think they just took one episode and copy pasted it over 7 times that isn’t how it went. Each episode took weeks of animating and just as much effort as any other episode. Im not saying that the episodes were great, obviously a fair majority of the fans didn’t like them. But they conveyed the message they set out to convey.
However,
THIS IS TOTALY FREAKING NOT THE SUBJECT AT HAND
Haruhi will continue because in spite of the endless eight they made a wonderful movie afterwards and I believe they will continue the series into the next season with the knowledge that the endless eight was the wrong way to go things and they will learn from it and will turn the Haruhi series into one of the greatest anime ever.
Here’s an idea:
How about they create all of the animations for the series, then send it over to America and have them dub it first? Not only would American audiences be able to see it faster, but it would also put pressure on the Japanese end to try and speed things up a bit.

Any ways, I don’t think Endless Eight negatively impacted the series at all as when the Disappearance came out everyone completely forgot their hate for season 2.
Also, I don’t get why they would end the anime where it is as 1) there’s tons more money to be made and tons of fans wanting more and 2) The Disappearance only left the series even more unfinished, especially to fans who don’t read the novels.

According to my friend in Japan there is a Aya Hirano hinted season 3 of Haruhi. Apparently she posted something on Twitter Feb 23rd, I can’t read Japanese so if someone wants to translate please do. It has something to do with her doing energetic voice acting.
I just want to say that the way the said “there are no plans to broadcasting a third season of Haruhi.” is left open to interpretation:
1) They said “broadcast”, maybe they are considering releasing a 3rd season strait to DVD/Blu-ray or maybe they will show it online, i just think the word “broadcast” is a little more suspicious than if they had said ‘no plans to make…’
2) They said “3rd season” and I look at this in 2 separate ways:
a)Season 2 was not really a second season, it was called a second season for selling purposes, it was really a continuation of season 1, they were even originally going to be only one season but KyoAni got busy and had to stop after just 14 episodes. So the may actually be working on what would be the “Second Season” if you say that all 28 episodes that are out now is just one season.
b) Isn’t it also possible that it will not be a “Season” but maybe something like an OVA series?
3) My final point is that KyoAni lies a lot about these things so that information doesn’t leak. They also claimed for a while that there would be no second season, but they made one!
So over all I think there is a good chance we will get a more of this anime whether it is another season or an OVA. But keep in mind KyoAni is a small company that can only do so much at a time, so don’t expect anything right away, they are so busy with the few series they have that there was a 3 year gap between Haruhi Suzumiya Season 1 and 2, we may not get more of the anime for quite a while.
P.S There was a hint at a third season in the ending credits of season 1, in the ending we see many still images of scenes from the anime, and many of the scenes happen in season 2. AND if you pay attention you will see an image of the Christmas party the happens after “The disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya” Kyon is even wearing the head of a reindeer costume which you may remember Haruhi told him to wear at the Xmas party.

Umm….i hope it released in April 2013…..with both english subbed & dubbed version….cuz i loved both versions….but Kyon’s sound in English was very awesome…..and Haruhi’s sound are better in Japanese….

If your are reading this Kyoto Animation please BROADCAST the third season,i know that because of the endless 8 in season two you lost a lot of viewers but if you make another season you gain them back .Many fans are upset about this ,and doing what ever i can to raise the ratings by recommending it to my friends. If you don’t broadcast the season I’ll probably end up buying the light novels.

I doubt they will stop making Haruhi, they just dont want to do it all at once, the secretism is just to make the fans more anxious and then drop the 3rd season like a bomb all at once, just like last time (they didnt even said anything about the second season until the day it actually aired!)
It may be a movie too, probably a new season+movie or 2 movies and then stop for some years again.
