Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya Artwork from Japan Expo

16 August 2010 26 Comments

A member of our forums (Ansem’s Way) recently attended the Japan Expo in Paris, France where Kadokawa Pictures was hosting a booth showcasing production sketch artwork and key animation cels from the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie.  He was able to snap a bundle of photos to share with us, view them below.  None of the animation cels or sketches were for sale at the showcase.  Unfortunately, no new news of the DVD release date of the movie outside Japan was announced at Japan Expo.

But has there been news of a DVD release date IN Japan? I’ve found no information whatsoever. Has there been word yet?

I was wondering the same as Chocolate Supra, but I’m very sure there hasn’t been a word on the japanese release either.
Those are some nice frames! Too bad two of the most amazing ones were reflected. The one with Ryouko in the classroom is now my background :3

I can’t wait to see ‘the making of’ if one is featured on the DVD, this movie is off the hook B)

I really liked the sketchs. It’s cool to see it before it gets coloured.

Wow. Must be pure hell to animate this stuff. Now does anyone understand why I’m pissed because the voice actor is always the figurehead? Ah… Never mind, it’s not like any of you have tried animation.

The frames don’t draw themselves, you know. Each frame is usually carefully sketched and colored.

Does anyone happen to know whether this Expo will come to the US?

Does anyone know the real release date for season two? I have heard August 17th, but now it might be in September???? Confused.

Where does the movie fit in with the season two timeline?

  • Haruhi-chan said:

@ shanghaikid85: I’m not sure on the release date myself. I’ve seen both dates so I would not be able to tell you when the release is exactly. I’m saying that it is going to be in September though. Either way, I believe that the month is going to go by quickly.
As for your question about the movie, I believe that it goes after the Endless 8 arc.

  • centipede said:

The movie is after the whole anime… specifically, after the episode “Someday in the rain”, as that is the last episode, chronologically

  • Haruhi-chan said:

@ centipede: Thanks for clearing that up.

@ Haruhi-chan: I think that It won’t happen, because, I’ve just found this link http://www.cospa.com/event/id/1231 where you can find all the convention where Cospa shop will participate. As you can see, It’s really reduce, only 4 expos. (Only 1 in France, and the rest in the whole Asia)
But you know, It was a really success, so maybe the next year, they will be more open-minded, and they’ll go in US. ^^

@ Ansem’s way: Thanks for the link. I doubt it will reach the US, I really appreciate the update though. =]

I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration however clearly there are questions just like the one you deliver up the place the most important factor will likely be working in sincere good faith.
