Bandai Entertainment panel at Otakon

8 August 2010 19 Comments

ota_bandai Bandai recently hosted an anime panel at Otakon 2010 (July 30-Aug 1) in Baltimore, Maryland where they released information about the second season of Haruhi Suzumiya DVD, the Dissapearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie, along with other Bandai licenses including Gurren Lagann, K-ON! and Gundam Unicorn. The official release date for the second season DVDs is set for September 14, 2010. Voice actresses Stephanie Sheh and Christina Vee were on hand to answer panel questions and perform live dubbing. Stephanie, who does Mikuru’s voice in the English dubs, will be doing Yui’s voice for K-ON! Similarly, Christina, who dubs for Haruhi’s voice, will be performing the dubs for Mio. A special message from Minori Chihara was also played for the panel attendees and a voice dubbing contest was hosted to give away prizes — the grand prize was a VIP ticket to Minori Chihara’s concert at the New York Anime Festival.

So the first season of K-ON! is already out by Bandai?
Anyways, great news! I’m watching K-ON! Season 1 dubbed by Animax right now.

There’s a mistake in this, it says Christina Vee is dubbing Haruhi, which she isn’t, though I think it was mentioned she might get a small part in the second season. I think the original author of this mixed up the fact that she plays her in the ASOS Brigade.

On the other hand, I’m very excited she’s playing Mio- I’ve thought she should ever since I heard her rendition of Don’t Say Lazy. And Stephanie She for Yui is exciting too:)

Hmm, I thought that the release date for the DVDs was August 17th? A well, K-On! Dub is something to look forward to, casting seems perfect so far!

Actually, I did not mess up the fact of Cristina’s role of Haruhi. In reality, I put that she plays Haruhi in the new ASOS Brigade so yeah lol. Anyway, I cannot wait for K-ON! to come out on DVD!

YESSSSS! Animax dubbed K-ON and it sucked (MORE THAN 4KIDS, I KID YOU NOT), so I’m glad Bandai is doing a redub. I kinda expected Christina to do Mio, since Haruhi and Mio have pretty similar Japanese voices. I’m also excited for Stephanie Sheh as Yui- I have a special spot in my heart for Stephanie, as she was the first voice actor I ever met at a con- but I want to know who’s dubbing Tsumugi and my beloved Ritsu! D: I’d imagine Karen Strassman is dubbing Tsumugi, since she also dubbed Miyuki in Lucky Star, but I can’t think of anyone who could recreate Ritsu’s awesome voice in English!

As long as the dub isn’t exactly like THoMS, I’m looking forward to the K On dubs. If Mio sounds too much like Haruhi or Yui’s voice is too high… eh.. we’ll just have to wait and see

Haruhi is played by Wendee Lee. Mio isn’t.

    Haruhi is great. Mio isn’t.

Was it mentioned when the English dub of The Disappearance Movie would be released?

    Wait a minute:-

    This could all be misleading.

Do you mean Christina did the voice of Haruhi and Mio in the LIVE dubbing?

    Or on the DVDs?

  • dukemon22 said:

Christina is doing Mio’s voice in the dub of K-On. She only played Haruhi in the SOS brigade. Wendee Lee played her in the first season, and is playing her in the second. Someone messed up with the article posted.
