The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya English DVD Coming Soon
Yesterday, Bandai Entertainment released on their Youtube Channel a English Subtitled version of the trailer for the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie. At the end of the trailer, Bandai states that the English DVD will be ‘coming soon’ but did not specify any dates. However, with the flurry of activity and news surrounding the Haruhi movie in the United States, we can expect that the official DVDs will come out this year, and may even be available within a few months. As Bandai has announced before, the movie will be in both dubbed and subtitled format. Warning: trailer contains minor spoilers for the movie.

We all know Japan is going to get a Blu Ray… Bandai please be to release blu ray? If not I’m just gonna have to buy the DVD to support the translation industry, then import the Blu Ray from Japan to support their industry… then go download a fansub so I can watch it in HD with subtitles o_O

:S I can’t think of any reason for them not to be… the tiny bit of extra compression needed to squeeze both tracks in 5.1 onto one disc shouldn’t hurt the quality too much :S

I would like to hope that the DVD will come with both the Japanese and English dub. But I if I could get my way I would want it on blue-ray and to get a DVD with it and around the time a massive DVD box set of all the anime episodes. But like that will happen. As long as it’s not english dubbed but english subbed. The english dubbed always make me JUMP, with no exception! It’s been 6 months since 06/2010 and the Japanese version has been released for a long while. They even had the movie playing in the theaters in the China already. Too bad there is no Chinese version of the DVD but some bootlegged online that makes you dizzy when you watch. I really wish that my Japanese-speaking ability is so much better.

how do you know its coming out in February there are some high quality dvd fansubs but subs make my ears bleed no offense but i’d rather listen to something i speak i mean if you only speak english or some other language you can’t even tell what good jap voice acting is i really miss kyons refreshing english voice if you wanna bash dubs because your retarded especially the haruhi dub with is one of the best dubs out there crispen freemen hasn’t failed anyone yet

Oh Anon, you are snobbery at its finest. Subbing vs. Dubbing all comes down to personal preference with neither process being inherently superior to the other. Both processes have examples of being really great and others being really wretched.

Yeah.. Haruhi Suzumiya is the best. I really can’t wait to watch the “Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya” on english dub. I think even if I watched it a thousand times I won’t get bored. Really great story. Real genius and mind tickling movie. The best!

i prefer watching dub because i listen to them, if it was visual either subs or dubs but since i’m using my ears, i can understand English better than i can with Nihongo (japanese)

I personally like to watch the subbed version because it is closer to the actual thing. Also, if you listen well enough, it always seems like the English version always have male characters that have extremely high voices compared to the Japanese counterparts. Also, it just sounds more natural in Japanese than in English…
………,,,,,,I’m having doubts of the english dub coming out, for real. All i know is they need to make up for that damn Endless Eight thing, and a movie? Definitely going to make up for it. On top of that, the trailer made the movie look even better than i thought… Yuki actually makes EMOTIONS? And that girl that attacked kyon at the beginning is coming BACK? This is truly a movie i can’t miss, and i’m sure everyone else is dying to see it. Another thing i know is they seriously need to hurry up with the english dub, because after watching the endless eight, i was like,” Did they honestly just do this shit? It might be released on December 18th. That was the day everything changed (a main point in the movie) and Japan also released it on this date. It also may be around christmas because that is where the movies date theme is

Just got an e-mail from Bandai saying that the Blu-Ray has been shipped. Will write up thoughts/opinions on the content and quality when it gets here.
My order of the English Blu-ray and DVD combo of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya just shipped out today.
Watching the extra features disc right now.
The Good: The Location, BGM and SFX/Editing features are very well put together and informative. You get to see a lot of early footage from the movie, how the choir were directed in accordance to the stabbing scene, some good examples of editing visuals and fine details for the movie.
I got a big kick out of watching the video editors creating the title sequence, noting how to place Tanagawa-San’s name for prominence and changing the location of some names based on the sequences that were playing, and then the main editors activating their recliners to watch the completed project. Specific mention goes to the Minori Chihara video feature and the location scouting, as it lets you get a really in-depth look into the places where Haruhi gained it’s scenery, and Taniguchi fans will be happy to see him take over the documentary of the music video halfway through.
Oh… and 1080dpi Haruhi looks amazing. Seriously, I shouldn’t even be watching the extra disc, I have the main movie to look forward to.
The Bad: They are very comprehensive with the trailers, which means running the same ones 4-5 times in a row due to subtle differences, seeing the original teaser 6 times in a row was a bit much. The Minori Chihara music video section was amazing but the first half was too full of her standing and posing and it didn’t include the music video in the end. In fact, no songs are featured at all on the bonus disc.
Only ONE feature on the entire disc is US only, which is the 25 second Christina Vee “Disappearance” clip. Nothing featuring Freeman, Lee, Bosch, Ruff or Sheh. No commentary. As a fan of the US production of Haruhi, I found this disappointing, especially as there are 2 hours of Japanese features on there.

All in all, I am very happy with this set and send my love and adoration to all who created it. It’s been a crazy 19 months and 2 days since the movie’s release and finally after all of that waiting I own a copy to call my own. I hope the rest of the Haruhi community enjoy theirs too.
And here’s hoping we get a S3 sometime, with or without Miss Hirano.
