Haruhi Movie Bookmark Sells for $3990 USD
A promotional bookmark made from a film strip of a key scene in the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie has been auctioned off for $3990 USD (356,000 Yen) on Yahoo! Auctions Japan. From ANN:
YenThe auction for a film strip randomly given to a repeat viewer of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie just ended on Monday evening at 356,000 yen (about US$3,990). To encourage fans to watch the movie again, the producers launched a “Film Bookmark Repeater Campaign” late last month. Fans can redeem the two movie ticket stubs for a bookmark made from the 35mm film reels of the movie. (At least one of the ticket stubs has to be dated on February 27 or later.)
The auctioned film strip comes from a key scene in the movie between the characters Yuki Nagato and Kyon. At 11:35 p.m. on Monday — just three days after the campaign officially started and less than two days after the auction began — the auction ended with 233 bids. The final bid has yet to be verified.

Now I’m curious how much Kadokawa Shoten charge the cinemas to buy the entire reels of film, each cinema could be sitting on a gold mine! Well, all of the ones who are showing the film version, my guess would be that there is probably a digital copy in circulation for cinemas with digital projectors.
WTF?! $3,990 for a bookmark?
LOL
it’s not any book mark it’s got the film reel of the original copy on it that in time should very well exceed 1 million US!
I’d would make so much love to that one bookmark…
Emotional love of course, i’d do surgery to implant that in my heart so i die with it…
want to watch it in Japan
Hmm… I wonder who ended up with the strip of film containing Taniguchi’s “creepy face”?”
Whoever got that strip of film must be REALLY disappointed right now.
This is evidence that Haruhi-ism has stretched to America…
I think the Otakus here are even more scary than the ones in Japan…
Who else here agrees? If you do, reply with “SOS BRIGADE, SAVE US!!!” XD
yah i guest we will save or huh?
I was sold to someone in Japan, not in the US.
Most so called “Haruhists” Don’t even know who Aya is.
I totally know what you mean Plagus. I’ve had people tell me all about how much they love Haruhi and that her songs are just THE BEST. And then “Oh, did you hear so-and-so song by Aya?” and they’re like “Um, who the hell is Aya?”
I die a little inside when that happens, quite frnakly.
