Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 DVDs Coming to North America

26 January 2010 10 Comments

According to a new video posted at Bandai Entertainment’s ASOS Brigade website, it appears the North American license rights to the second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya have been signed. American voice actress Cristina Vee appears in the video singing the English version of season 2 OP Super Driver (originally sang by Aya Hirano) in a not so subtle hint that she will play a voice role in the English DVDs.  The producer in the video mentions that he will need to shoot a new series of promotional videos for the season 2 DVDs so we’ll likely see similar videos from ASOS in the near future.
Thanks to Abraham and Sonicdaman for sending in the news tip and links. If you have Haruhi-related news or media to share, please send it in.

America really needs to get Hollywood caliber voice actors to do anime voices… Cameron Diaz could’ve done an awesome haruhi. THEY NEED TO TAKE ANIME MORE SERIOUSLY

these are not the voice actors for the anime, they are simply the team that promotes the DVD release.

One thing I always wondered, what’s the point in the ASOS brigade? From what I’ve seen now and before, they seem to be some corny cosplayers pulled from a random anime convention. Does anyone really care about them? Why can’t they just promote the DVDs with the anime characters instead?

LOL, I get where you’re coming from. I think corny is what they’re going for (I got some goosebumps watching the skit in the second half), and it’s probably cheaper than animating a promo commercial.

Why is the Yuki cosplayer reading a Lucky Star book? Shouldn’t it be on quantum physics or string theory?

The video made it seem like they’re going to use some different actors from the original dub. I hope not because in my personal opinion, the Haruhi dub was perfectly cast. The only reason I could imagine they would change it is because of scheduling conflicts with the original actors. But yeah, the ASOS Brigade actors are not the same as the dub actors so maybe the dub won’t change.

I’m not familiar with anything Cristina Vee has done but she seems like a decent actress from the video.

Also really curious to see how they’ll release the single Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody episode and all the Endless Eight ones.

Also – why the bloody hell is she lypsynching (and badly at that) god damn, ASOS brigade just makes my blood boil. Sorry if any ASOS people read this site, but you suck. :(

Bit of fridge logic here, but CrisVee, the one singing Super Driver, is known as “MilkyCabbage” on YouTube and has made a following doing English language versions of Haruhi. It’s kind of touching that Bandai would seek out a fan (especially after blocking her YouTube videos at one point) and have her do official promotions.

Probably helps that she’s a full fledged voice actress offline.

    They’re dubbing the OP? AUUUUGH!
I hate dubbed songs, I wish they would just leave then Japanese like they did for season 1.
Then again, Vee’s dub of Super Driver was excellent. Maybe this won’t be so bad after all.

Can’t wait to see Season 2 out. To those who don’t like the ASOS Brigade, it’s a humor thing. Kind of a Behind the Scenes if you will. It’s meant for laughs, not for seriousness.

As for the likelihood of a new English cast, I mind if they recast anyone, ESPECIALLY KYON (I’m a Crispin Freeman fanboy. :P ). However, it would be interesting, admittedly, VERY INTERESTING, if they tossed madam MilkyCabbage up in the spotlight and made her Haruhi. However, only time will tell of what shall truly happen.
