Haruhi Suzumiya Volume 10: coming 2009?
The last Haruhi Suzumiya light novel: volume 9 The Dissociation of Haruhi Suzumiya was officially released in Japan on April 1, 2007 (no April’s fools joke, really). It’s September 2009 now, but volume 10 which is titled ‘The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya’ has yet to be published. The Dissociation of Haruhi Suzumiya kind of left things at a cliffhanger, so I’m sure many fans are anxious to know what happens next; but having to wait over two years is a bit much. Volume 10 was supposed to be released in early 2008 according to Kadokawa Shoten, the publisher of the Haruhi Suzumiya light novels. Unfortunately, they made an announcement that volume 10 will be delayed for undisclosed circumstances. We can only speculate what the reasons were, was it a writer’s block? Some kind of promotional timeline problem with the second anime season? Whatever the reason, Kadokawa has been pretty tight lipped and hasn’t released any info until this year. Recent pages from the Sneaker (where Haruhi Suzumiya short stories are published) hint that Nagaru Tanigawa is working on the 10th volume, but don’t have a specific release date for us. From the promos and covers released so far, we can be certain that Sasaki will play a major role in this story.

Really 2 years or more is already very late, maybe the date got lost in dissaperance or endless eight, unless the author died and wasn’t anounced, I’m guess he will realease in in 594 years

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Volume 10 has come out on Japan Amazon and Yesasia. I almost fell out of the chair when I saw it!

If I remember correctly, he was ill. All better now, and the book is in the “readying” for publication stage.
Now it will probably going out with the movie…

Yes. Volume 10 will end the series. (I HOPE IT’S A SATISFYING ENDING!) I’m sure it was delayed because of the movie, but maybe they’re going to wait until som ominus date like 10/10/10 to release it. Hehe…he… (;=_=) i sure hope not…

the end? i didn’t think that theres more of a reason to continue the series not finish it or have misinterpreted this fact? will they REALLY discontinue haruhi?
If volume 10 gonna be the ending of the series, lets speculate shall we?
The title is going to be “the surprise of suzumiya haruhi”. So I guess that means haruhi will realise her power. Kyon will use ‘I am John Smith’ trump card. So I guess haruhi would most probably be surprised. Sasaki will probably trapped between the factions… in vol 9 she did said that she dont really want the power.

nice guess centipede, but i think that this continuation will show kimidori, the agency and the time travelers- cause armegedon in some way and sasaki becomes uncontrolable enough and Kyon’s decision on who’s god of this world. a slider will show up and plot a&b are alternate plots to reveal an anomaly similar to a paridox or simply an alternate ending! or are they writing this book to show a continuation of plot a rather than b or will it be a 2 part book finale?
I consider the same about plot a&b. Don’t you think it’s weird that on plot a, Yuki doesn’t say anything, and there’s hardly any description on her while in plot b…well you know the deal? I hope there’s a slider involved in this dilema. Who knows? Maybe the slider could be Kyon all along?? XD

either way this may be concluded in book 11? considering if surprise isn’t rhe end…
If they don’t release it soon, I say we all do something Haruhi-like.

the author should at least mention Kyon’s real name in the ending volume
true but i guess it wouldn’t matter any way because we know him as Kyon for 9 lengthy novels
since the whole comotion of what the next novel plot will be i will bet you an unimaginable figure will translate the preveiw in the sneaker on the 30th of april 2010

Volume 10 can NOT be the last book. If he quits writing Haruhi, then Haruhi doesn’t exist, meaning this world doesn’t exist.

I don’t know why people are saying the reason for the delay of the last book is an enigma. It’s pretty obvious that the anime studio has asked the publishers to hold up release of the final book. The last book will reveal what Haruhi is, who/what “Kyon” is (remember we still don’t even know his real name) and more. The answers to the series’ mysteries would have pretty much spoiled the tv show and the movie.
I’m sure the publishers are happy to oblige with all the publicity that been brought to these books courtesy of the various animated treatments. The final book will have monstrous sales whenever it is released.
