When Will The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya Get Animated?

10 August 2009 4 Comments

Good news this week, early spoilers say that this week’s Haruhi Suzumiya season 2 episode will be the last one in the hell we have come to call Endless Eight.  I’m still not too sure what Kyoto  Animation thought they’d gain by doing so many loop episodes. If it was an experiment to test the limits of otaku patience, it certainly succeeded. But my gut feeling is that it was just a cheap filler tactic to stretch out the series into as many episodes as possible and ultimately increase DVD sales.

I was so looking forward to seeing Disappearance animated in the second season, and instead we got filler. I wonder how long it’ll be before we can see a blushing Nagato or long-haired Haruhi animated.  To get the bad taste out of my mouth I went and re-read The Disappearance of Haruhi (the fourth light novel) and dug up some ‘Disappearance’ Haruhi fan art and official pics from my collection. To those who haven’t heard or seen this version of Haruhi before – the short explanation is that she’s like an alternate universe Haruhi.  After appearing on the cover of an issue of the Japanese NewType magazine, tons of fan art have popped up. Go and read the 4th novel if you’re interested and don’t mind spoiling the anime.
