Episode 04. The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya

On another one of her wild whims, Haruhi decides to enter the SOS Brigade into a baseball tournament at the school. The winner of the tournament will receive a big boost for their club’s budget. But because they lack enough players to make a full baseball team of nine people, they recruit Tsuruya, Taniguchi, Kunikida, and even Kyon’s sister into the team. Haruhi’s natural athleticism allows her to play well, but the rest of the team is hopelessly outmatched against the more experienced players of the opposing team. Haruhi even forces Mikuru to play dressed in a cheerleader uniform and puts on one herself. Even with these distractions though, their team appears doomed to lose. Fearing that a loss will cause Haruhi to go into a depression again, Kyon asks Yuki to use her powers to manipulate the game to their favor. Yuki complies and reprograms their bat to hit homeruns no matter who swings it. The SOS Brigade wins, but forfeit the game to the other team due to the weird circumstance which occurred. The opposing team agrees to not say anything in exchange for getting to keep the “magical” bat, not realizing it was returned back to normal by Yuki after the game ended.
