Haruhi Movie Opens Up at #7 at Box Office

In case anyone forgot, the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie premiered this past Saturday in movie theaters across Japan to great fanfare. At the Sunshine Cinema in Tokyo, die-hard Haruhi fans began lining up 8 hours prior to the first screening in the cold of the early morning (source); the line-up eventually stretched up to 500 people. As common to many anime movie events, Haruhi merchandise and special promotional items were readily available to be gobbled up by avid Haruhiists. Some photos of the movie premiere can be …

Haruhi-chan Manga Licensed for North America

Yenpress has recently licensed Puyo’s The Melancholy of Suzumiya-Haruhi-Chan manga for North American publication. The manga has been in publication since 2008 in Kadokawa Shoten’s Shonen Ace. Most fans believed the gag manga would not see the light of day overseas so a scanlation group has been (slowly) translating the chapters.
In other Haruhi publication news, Little Brown Young Readers will be releasing the third volume of the Haruhi Suzumiya light novels (The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya) in July; at current pace, the next volume should be ready in another 5-6 …

“Super Driver” and “Tomare!” English Versions

As a follow up to the post about the English Haruhi Suzumiya season 2 DVD announcement, posted below are the English versions of “Super Driver” and “Tomare!” Both songs are performed by Christina Vee; Christina’s recent appearance on the ASOS promo video pretty much confirmed that she will provide the vocals for the OP (and possibly the ED) songs on the English version DVDs. You can check out Chistina Vee’s Youtube Channel here. Thanks to Abraham for sending this in. If you have Haruhi-related news or media to share, please …

Watch All 8 Endless Eight Episodes in One Video

Found this one on Youtube yesterday and thought it was pretty clever: all eight episodes from the Endless Eight arc played simultaneously side-by-side in one 25 minute video.  If you haven’t watched all of Endless Eight yet, this will save you 175 minutes of your time but will probably give you a big headache trying to process all of it :p

Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya Theme Song by Minori Chihara

Following their last video to promote the soundtrack for the new Haruhi Suzumiya movie, Lantis has today posted a music video promoting the main theme song that will be used in the movie. The song, named “Yasashii Bokyaku” (Kindly Forget) is sang by Minori Chihara, who is the Japanese Seiyuu for Yuki Nagato. The gentle and somewhat sad tune comes off as a fitting melody for the events of ‘Disappearance’ from Yuki’s point of view. There are less than 10 days now until the movie premiers in Japan.

Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 DVDs Coming to North America

According to a new video posted at Bandai Entertainment’s ASOS Brigade website, it appears the North American license rights to the second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya have been signed. American voice actress Cristina Vee appears in the video singing the English version of season 2 OP Super Driver (originally sang by Aya Hirano) in a not so subtle hint that she will play a voice role in the English DVDs.  The producer in the video mentions that he will need to shoot a new series of promotional …
